As Los Angeles continues to grow as a dynamic, diverse, and decentralized metropolis, the way people move through the city must evolve. Laxi is a next-generation robotaxi concept designed specifically for the rhythm, scale, and lifestyle of LA — where flexibility, connectivity, and efficiency are more than just features, they’re necessities. Launching in LA in 2030, Laxi reimagines the ride-hailing experience for a city that thrives on motion.
LA isn’t just a city — it’s a network of neighborhoods spread across vast distances, with diverse lifestyles and a heavy reliance on personal vehicles. But this dependency creates real problems: traffic congestion, limited public transport coverage, and parking stress.
Decentralized geography creates demand for smarter, flexible transit.
Lifestyle-driven commuting (beach, work, events, airport runs) requires adaptability.
Progressive culture makes LA a testbed for autonomous and sustainable innovation.
No strangers bumping into you.
Can take a call, nap, cry, eat — without judgment.
Point-to-point travel without transfers or walking.
No waiting on schedules — it comes to you.
Faster, especially when you’re late or in a rush.
Late-night travel (when buses/trains slow down or stop)
Carrying luggage, groceries, or pets.
Traveling with family or elders
People are moving toward ride-hailing because it gives them what public transit doesn’t: control, comfort, flexibility, and emotional ease.
People aren’t just looking for a way to get around — they want to stay connected, feel in control, and move through the city on their own terms.
You and your friend are riding in separate cars, synced in a digital convoy...
Then a yellow light appears — your friend makes it through, but you don’t. In that small moment, the connection breaks. Laxi is designed to keep that connection alive, even when the road doesn’t.
Plans change — and riders want the freedom to change with them. Whether it’s picking up a friend, making a detour, or switching destinations last-minute, flexibility matters. Laxi is built to adapt on the go — because in real life, routes aren’t always final.
In some studies, it is found that for regular work commutes, many people do not use their trunk unless they have specific needs.
Laxi isn’t just another vehicle on the road — it’s instantly recognizable, even from a distance. With its bold, iconic form and signature lighting, it stands out in LA’s traffic-heavy landscape. Whether you're waiting on a curb or watching it glide up from a block away, you know it’s your ride. Laxi turns the everyday pickup into a moment of arrival.
Inside Laxi, every detail is designed for a refined, personal ride experience.
The two-seat layout offers a sense of spacious intimacy, ideal for solo travelers or pairs. Built-in shades provide instant privacy, while a retractable table and clever storage compartments support everything from quiet work sessions to weekend escapes.
A curved display wraps into view with intuitive touchpoints, seamlessly integrated with a smart AI system that adapts to your mood, needs, and ride rhythm. It's not just a vehicle—it’s a personal space in motion.
The Laxi AI helps you order, adjust, and personalize your ride
Laxi’s AI goes beyond basic voice commands — it learns your routine and anticipates your needs. On your morning commute, it can automatically place your usual coffee order and adjust the route to include a quick pickup stop, ensuring you're fully prepped for the day ahead. This proactive, personalized support turns every ride into a seamless part of your lifestyle — smooth, efficient, and one step ahead.
No More Guesswork at the Curb
LLaxi’s AI takes the guesswork out of unfamiliar destinations. If you're not sure where to be dropped off, it automatically selects the closest and most convenient gate or entrance — so you don't have to stress about finding the right spot or dealing with tricky street parking. It’s designed to ease your mind and make every arrival smooth and effortless.
Your AI Chauffeur
Laxi’s AI acts like your personal chauffeur — not just driving, but thoughtfully curating your journey. If you're exploring the city or visiting somewhere unfamiliar, it suggests personalized stops, local gems, and points of interest tailored to your preferences.
From hidden cafes to scenic detours, your ride becomes more than just transit — it's a guided experience, planned for you.
An AI That Sees With You
Laxi’s AI doesn’t just understand roads — it understands people. Whether you're picking up a parent, meeting a friend, or dealing with vision challenges, Laxi helps recognize familiar faces and provides subtle visual cues to ease the experience. It acts like someone who knows you — identifying your pickup, guiding you gently, and making the entire process feel personal, thoughtful, and stress-free.
Connected, Even in Separate Cars
Laxi redefines what it means to ride together. Even when you and your friends are digital convoying, you can stay connected through a shared video chat session — perfect for group chats, planning your next stop, or simply hanging out along the way. You can even snap photos together in sync, capturing shared moments across cars. With Laxi, distance doesn't interrupt the experience — it enhances it.
Plans shift — and Laxi shifts with you.
When you're traveling with friends in separate cars, anyone in the group can suggest a new stop or change the destination. Once confirmed, all vehicles update automatically, keeping the convoy in sync without needing extra coordination. It's effortless, flexible, and built for how real-life plans actually unfold.
The 14-week journey flew by, filled with constant iteration, discussion, and discovery. Throughout the process, I gained a deeper understanding of how to balance creativity with real-world constraints — from budgets and technical feasibility to timelines and user needs. Each round of refinement taught me how to better anticipate outcomes, make informed decisions, and align design ambition with what’s actually possible. I'm proud of the result, and incredibly grateful for everything I learned along the way — and most of all, thankful for my amazing teammates, whose ideas, energy, and collaboration made this project truly special!
